Language Support

Adult Migrant English Program

TAFE SA English Language Services (ELS) delivers the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) across South Australia. This is the Australian Government’s nation-wide English language program. Classes at ELS are full-time or part- time, day or evening. In addition, students can study by Distance Learning, privately with e-learning modules or with a volunteer Home Tutor who visits for two hours per week.

Humanitarian entrants and migrants aged 18 years and above with less than ‘functional English’ may be eligible for this program. Check eligibility at TAFE SA English Language Services, Level 5, 127 Rundle Mall, Adelaide SA 5000 Run by TAFE SA English Language Services (www.els.edu.au)

Tel: (08) 8226 6555. Eligible students must register within the first 6 months of arrival in Australia. Entry to classes may occur only in the first two weeks of each school term.

At: TAFE SA campuses in Rundle Mall, Salisbury, Noarlunga, Mt Gambier, Renmark and Naracoorte, as well as many suburban and regional settings including Murraylands Migrant Resource Centre at Murray Bridge.

Intensive English Language Education

Intensive English language and orientation to South Australian schooling

For young humanitarian entrants without proficient English, and / or without continuous schooling experience

In 18 primary IEL centres (17 in metropolitan Adelaide and 1 in Mount Gambier), 1 secondary (Croydon) and 1 adult-entry (Thebarton)

Provides fee based 24 hour interpreting and translating services in approximately 140 languages and dialects, including:

  • Translation from English or into English
  • Checking of Translations
  • Editing and Proof-reading
  • Certified Translations
  • Affidavits

Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS)

An interpreting service for people who do not speak English and for the English speakers who need to communicate with them. It provides immediate telephone interpreting services, as well as pre-booked telephone and on-site interpreting.

Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for any person or organisation in Australia requiring interpreting services.
