Easter ‑ Christian
|Event Name||Easter - Christian|
|Start Date||16th Apr 2017 12:00am|
Easter is the central feast in the Christian Liturgical year. It commemorates Jesus Christ who, according to the New Testament, rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Sunday. Easter marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer and penance.
The last week of Lent is called Holy Week, (with Sunday before being Palm Sunday), which includes the Last Supper and Good Friday, the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Easter customs vary across the Christian world but decorating Easter eggs (usually in red to honour the blood of Christ) is a common motif. Greetings of "Christ is risen!" with a response of "He is risen indeed!" are said. In Polish culture, the Rezurekcja (Resurrection Procession) is the joyous Easter morning Mass when church bells ring and explosions resound to commemorate Christ rising from the dead.
